I certainly hope everyone had a great break last month!
Report cards are now finished and will be going home next week. We will also be having our Celebration of Learning on the 10th! Information has gone home, but just a reminder that the Celebration is a chance for your child to show you some of the things he or she has done in class. You will be able to rotate through different centres or activities, and the kids will be able to show you what's what!
It will be from 4-6pm, but you only have to spend about 20 minutes. You can show up at any point between 4 and 5:40. It should be a fun evening, and I am very much looking forward to seeing you there!

February got a off to a great start with a trip to the Galt Museum! The kids were able to take a look into our city's past, and some even got to dress up a little in costumes. A huge thank you again to those who came to help us out! It was a blast!!
We are continuing to grow in French, and recently we've been focusing more on writing. Sometimes the students just grab a prompt or their journals and go! It's a great class of authors. We have been looking in depth at what our expectations are in Grade 1, in terms of content, organisation, conventions, and printing. The kids are improving all the time, adding more details, and making great sentences! It is also amazing to see the leadership at work. For example, sometimes, if a student doesn't know a word, they will go grab one of our "Clifford" dictionaries, or look up a sight word in their Leader in Me binders. They take a lot of pride in their work!
In math, we continue to build on many different aspects. Earlier in the year we talked about "les groupes de dix", but now we can use more formal language such as 'les unités' (ones), and 'les dizaines' (tens).
We are getting better and better each day in our skip counting by 2s, and 10s!! This month, we will also be putting more focus on counting by 5s.
We are also continuing to work on addition and subtraction throughout the year.

In science, we will be moving from the 5 Senses to looking at plants and animals, which should coincide nicely with coming of Spring.
In Social Studies we have been discussing and doing activities regarding our families and groups. It's always fun to talk about groups with this class, as they mention many that they are a part of! We also talk often about how our French Immersion community is a group, and talk about our pride of being bilinguals!
The 100th day of school was great fun! We did some 100-related centres, and a writing prompt. The kids also enjoyed putting 100 dots on my face and arms, and making masks for themselves. (Not quite as messy.)
Next week (the morning of Wednesday, the 9th), we are going to be taking a field trip to a grocery store, and go on a hunt for food groups! More information will be coming as soon as possible.
We are also looking forward to seeing the projects at the Science and Heritage Fair next week!!! Judging will be on Tuesday. Our class will have a chance to go and walk around the booths, as well.
We also have another week-long break this month, so I hope you enjoy it, and have a Happy March!
