Happy Spring everyone!
April was a month filled of beautiful weather and field trips. And when I say beautiful weather, I mean beautiful weather! Fortunately, our second yard clean-up was this month (the last time there was snow.) It was gorgeous outside, and the kids did an amazing job cleaning up both the field, and the playgrounds. It was absolutely spotless afterwards!

Currently, en français, we continue to work on all aspects of the French language everyday: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It is amazing to see and hear the large leaps made since September. Bravo les élèves !
One example of an activity we have been working on recently, is identifying and creating the beginning, middle, and end of a story. The kids have done a great job with descriptions, and now we are looking at stories with more detail. We have written stories concentrating on this together, and individually.
I always tell the students that I have a class full of "écrivains" and "écrivaines" (authors). It's always amazing to see the stories fly during les 5 au quotidien !

In math, we are doing a lot of practice, practice, practice! We are working on our number sense, additions & subtractions, and we are looking at shapes. We made booklets to help us remember the different 2D shapes. This month, we will be learning about the 3D shapes as Star Wars characters. Oh la la!
In Science, we are looking at plants and animals. One of our field trips was earlier this month at Green Haven. It was a lot of fun, and great to see all sorts of different plants, and their needs.
The cherry on top, was of course, when each student received their own tiny marigolds to grow themselves. Thank you Green Haven! And thank you again to all the parent volunteers!
In Social Studies, we continue to make reference to the different groups to which we belong, while talking about citizenship, and what it means to be a good citizen. We've discussed roles and responsibilities a fair bit.
Towards the end of the month, we had another field trip. This time to Helen Schuler Nature Centre. It was certainly a lot warmer than the last time we visited, and some students were even able to spot a deer!
This field trip continued with our unit of plants and animals. Thanks again to the parents who came out to help!
There are many things happening in May. If you can't find your copy of the calendar, feel free to look at the "documents" page.
I for one and very excited to see a presentation by Bill Bestiole from Quebec ! He is going to be showing the school all sorts of neat bugs!
We will also be having the Scientists in School here for the last time this year, on May 12th. Please don't forget to send some newspaper to school!!!
Have a wonderful month of May, and this Sunday, une bonne fête des mères à toutes les mamans !
